  • The first one shows the south and east facing sides of the dwelling.  Notice that the rows of panels have a two foot space between them.  This allows easy walking and a possible location for snow to accumulate.  If a walkway is not possible on your roof, for whatever reason, it may take just a little longer to regain efficiency after a snowfall.  Several years without a major snowfall have not shown this to be a necessary feature.

  • Notice that the panels are slightly raised above the roofing shingles.  The solar panels are more efficient if they are cooler.  Leaving the space below allows free circulation of air and a slight reduction in panel temperature.  If you find the panels are too high for your taste, there is a lower set of mounting holes in the brackets that can provide a lower profile.

  • Notice that the wires are encased in PVC conduit to protect against hostile action by birds.  The conduit has eliminated the threat posed by crows who like to peck at them.
