• WHAT IS INCLUDED?

The Systems are designed using SUNWIZE solar panels.  These are a next generation module that has a higher performance efficiency than previous modules that are rated at 180 watts each. There would be 1 ENPHASE Inverters for each module.  This provides another 5% increase in efficiency.  The mounting structure is made of Unirac Mounting rails and appropriate hardware to secure the panels,  cables and PVC conduit completely installed and running. This system is roof mounted and includes a certified meter approved by BPU for SREC monitoring.  The angle of the roof should be between 10 degrees and 45 degrees with 30 degrees or as close as possible being ideal to work on. The cost for a Building Permit is not included in the price, and architect or engineer fees which are rarely required for residential jobs are the responsibility of the Owner of the property. 

  • HOW MUCH POWER CAN THIS SYSTEM PRODUCE?

That depends on the time of year, the orientation to the sun and of course, the number of hours of sunshine that strike the panels.  A SOUTH FACING roof is best, but if the roof on your home faces EAST OR WEST, it is still possible to install panels and qualify for a rebate.  Typical production for a 3 KW system at this latitude is 3.8 KW per year.  If you use 1000 Kilowatt hours per month (kWh), this is about 1/3 of your need for power.  When SRECs are added to the count, the income may very well exceed your electric bill.

DO I HAVE TO CUT DOWN MY TREES?

Your array must have unshaded exposure to the sun for most of the day.  The Final Inspector for the Board of Public Utilities will determine whether trees or other objects are going to shield your panels and he will assign a numerical grade to your location and site based on his own observations of location and obstacles present on the site.  Your site must exceed a 79 out of 100 in order to receive the Rebate or a partial Rebate even if you have a received a written committment.  It is possible that some trees must be removed.  

  • HOW MUCH MONEY CAN THIS SYSTEM PRODUCE?

If you install a 3060 watt system, you would produce about 3880 Kilowatt Hours of power worth about $640 or $53.35 per month at todays rates.  In addition, you will earn SRECs (SOLAR RENEWABLE ENERGY CERTIFICATE) The SREC can put more money in your pocket than your array saves you by producing power.  Each 1000 KW that you produce earns 1 SREC credit.  They are traded on a website.  Power producers must produce renewable energy or buy SRECs to offset the shortage.  We recently sold ours at $672.50 each SREC. (The PSE&G floor value in its loan program is less than $500)   A 3.06 KW system should earn 3.8 credits in an average year at this latitude. That is over $2555.50 or $212.96 per month.   

 

HOW LONG IS THE SYSTEM GUARANTEED?

  1. The Solar Panels are guaranteed for 25 years.
  2. The Inverters are guaranteed for 15 years by the manufacturer.   
  3. The entire system is guaranteed for 5 years by Highlands Solar Electric Company, LLC as required by law.
  • How Long Does It Take?
  1. Paperwork will take a day or two. 
  2. Approval by the RENEWABLE ENERGY REBATE PROGRAM has not been acertained as yet.   
  3. Once the approval is obtained it is not certain how long it will take to obtain building permit; installation should be as little as 2 days for roof and up to 30 days for ground mounted systems. 
  4. The BPU Inspection is the first inspection and it is conducted before the local inspection, usually within 3 weeks of date of request.
  5. Time for visits by the Code Enforcement Officials at your town are unpredictable, but should be conducted within 2 weeks of the date of request.  We must then await a Certificate of Completion from the Municipality.  That could add another week or more in some cases.  
  6. Final approval by the Utility should be within 2 - 3 weeks after they receive the Certificate of Completion and Final Interconnect paperwork.
